Chiemi Ip- Movement Artist 

Originally from Hong Kong, Chiemi Ip is a movement artist and dance educator who embodies a fusion of movement approaches and styles. Her choreography stems from her personal experiences, minimalist perspective, and worldview.

Chiemi received extensive training in Ballet, Modern (Limon and Cunningham), Contact Improvisation, Hip Hop/street styles, and Jazz. She also received training in classical Chinese dance, Flamenco, and somatic practices like Yoga, Tai Chi and Feldenkrais methods.

Chiemi earned her dual degree in MFA Dance and MA Dance Education at New York University. She is currently a company dancer on The Equus Projects and Dance Visions NY. Chiemi also served as a guest choreographer and teacher at Frank Sinatra High School of the Arts from 2020-2021.

Before moving to New York to pursue a career in Dance, Chiemi got her Bachelor's degree in UC San Diego. Chiemi was an awardee of the Stewart Prize in Choreography for her works “At Ease” and “Out of the Ether” and her contribution to the dance community.

Chiemi's most recent work "Drifting" premiered in November 2022 at Gibney and GreenSpace Fertile Ground Series. This work continues to expand and will be performed at New Works Series in March 2023. Stay tuned!
